Whitney Elizabeth Houston (born August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American Pop, R&B, Soul and Gospel singer, songwriter, record producer, film producer and actress. She was one of the most popular and successful singers of the 1980s and 1990s, receiving multiple Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, two Emmy Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and an MTV Movie Award. Her vocals ranked at number three on MTV’s 22 Greatest Voices in Music, influencing artists such as Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Brandy and other popular R&B and Pop singers. Houston also appeared on the CBS daytime drama, As The World Turns in 1985 as herself to promote her singing career and was written into the storyline briefly as being a past date for the character of Tucker Foster (Eddie Earl Hatch).
